Step 1

Where it all began…

Our journey started in Hoofdplaat, the home of Edwin’s restaurant. Edwin was eager to sit down with us to share his vision of the perfect chef jacket. As a seasoned chef, he knows exactly what a chef jacket should offer: comfort, style, and freedom of movement. Additionally, Edwin felt it was important to have subtle differences between the chef’s jacket and the kitchen staff’s, without losing harmony in the overall look. We gladly took on that challenge!

Step 2

Our journey continued to our Nido factory in North Macedonia

For further development, we invited Edwin to our Nido factory in North Macedonia. In our in-house sample department, we got straight to work. Edwin stayed with us for three days, where our designer Robert had already prepared various designs. These designs were ready to be tried on so we could quickly gather feedback and refine them together. The creative collaboration between Edwin and Robert led to deep brainstorming sessions about the ideal design: how should a classic chef jacket look while still providing ample freedom of movement?

Step 3

What exactly should a quality chef's jacket meet?

During these sessions, we realized that stretch fabric (pique) plays a crucial role in offering freedom of movement, especially around the back and arms. Additionally, it was essential that the jacket have a chic appearance, with a cut reminiscent of a blouse. By combining Edwin’s expertise with our technical knowledge, we developed several prototypes within a few days. Ultimately, two stunning chef jackets emerged that met all of Edwin’s requirements!

Chef Jacket 1742

The first model, the luxurious 1742, combines the elegance of a classic blouse with the comfort and functionality expected from a modern chef jacket. The front of the 1742 has a sleek, chic appearance, while the back and sleeves are made entirely of stretch fabric for maximum freedom of movement. This ensures you can move easily during work while still looking stylish.

The 1742 features a hidden button placket with YYK snap buttons of the highest quality, adding to its sleek design. Additionally, the chef jacket includes a handy apron loop on the back, keeping the apron securely in place. There is also a small pocket on the sleeve for storing small kitchen tools like a thermometer or kitchen tweezers. Chef Jacket 1742 is exclusively available via our website. The name of the jacket is inspired by the stunning restaurant 1742 in Ibiza, where Edwin works in the summer. Chef Jacket 1742 is currently available in white, black, navy, olive green, and specially for the Edwin collection, granite gray. Soon, the chef jackets will also be available in Wastewear.

Chef Jacket Nassau

The second chef jacket we designed with Edwin is the Nassau, a slightly more casual variant of the 1742 but still stylish and functional. This chef jacket has a tailored fit around the chest and waist, and the hidden button placket is accented with playful stitching reminiscent of baseball jackets. This gives the Nassau a slightly less luxurious feel than the 1742, but it remains within the same design line.

Like the 1742, the Nassau has sleeves and a back panel made of stretch fabric (pique), providing ultimate comfort and freedom of movement. The sleeves run up to the shoulders and collar, giving it a sleek and comfortable feel. The small standing collar sits comfortably around the neck, and like the 1742, the Nassau has an apron loop and a sleeve pocket for small kitchen tools. The Nassau is available in white, black, navy, olive green, and granite gray. This chef jacket will also be available in Wastewear soon. The name Nassau is derived from Edwin’s collaboration with the Nassau Group in Ibiza.

Edwin’s vision: Make every chef jacket unique with personal detail

In addition to designing the chef jackets, Edwin wanted to give chefs the opportunity to further personalize their jackets. For his own jackets, Edwin chose symbols that represent him, such as a fishing net on the back and seaweed on the front of the 1742. This way, you can make your chef jacket truly unique! Want to personalize your own chef jacket? Challenge us! We’d love to invite you to Wageningen for a cup of coffee to discuss the possibilities. You can also call or email us via the contact options on our website.

Hoofdplaat and Ibiza

Where inspiration comes to life. After designing the jackets, Edwin took them back to Zeeland, where we captured beautiful images reflecting his connection to the sea. We then traveled to Ibiza, where we could see the chef jackets in action. All product photos were taken in the heart of Ibiza city, which formed the perfect backdrop for the unique atmosphere of this collaboration.
